Dr. Prasad was born on December 3, 1884 in Jiradei, a small village in Bihar. His father’s name was Mahadev Sahai, and mother’s name was Kamleshwari Devi. His father was a great scholar of Sanskrit and Persian languages. While the mother was a religious woman, she used to tell the stories of Ramayana to Rajendra Prasad. Dr. Prasad’s child marriage happened at the age of 12 years. His wife’s name was Rajvanshi Devi.

Education of Dr. Rajendra Prasad

At the age of 5, Prasad’s parents started sending him to a Maulvi, so that he could acquire the knowledge of Persian, Urdu and Hindi. Dr. Rajendra Prasad’s early education took place in his own village Jiradei. He was inclined towards studies since childhood. Along with his brother Mahendra Pratap, he started attending TK Ghosh Academy in Patna. After this, he took the examination for admission to the University of Calcutta, in which he passed with very good numbers, after which he started getting a scholarship of 30 rupees every month. For the first time a young man from his village had succeeded in getting admission in Calcutta University, which was certainly a matter of pride for Rajendra Prasad and his family.

In 1902, Prasad ji enrolled in the Presidency College, from where he graduated. In 1907, he did his MA in Economics from the University of Calcutta. He completed his master’s degree in law in 1915, for which he was awarded the Gold Medal. After this, he also obtained a doctorate degree in law. After this, he came to Patna and started practicing law, due to which he got a lot of money and name.

Simplicity, service, sacrifice, patriotism and completely dedicated himself to the freedom movement. Dr. Rajendra Babu was a person of very simple and serious nature, he used to behave normally with people of all classes.

In Bihar, the British government had indigo fields, the government did not pay proper wages to its laborers. In 1917, Gandhiji came to Bihar and took the initiative to solve this problem. During the same time Dr. Prasad met Gandhiji, he was very impressed by his ideology. In 1919, there was a wave of civil movement all over India. Gandhiji appealed to boycott all schools, government offices. After which Dr. Prasad left his job.

During the Champaran movement, Rajendra Prasad became a loyal companion of Gandhiji. After coming under the influence of Gandhiji, he abandoned his old and orthodox ideology and participated in the freedom movement with a new energy. In 1931, the Congress started the movement. During this, Dr. Prasad had to go to jail several times. In 1934, he was made the President of the Bombay Congress. He was made president more than once. He participated in the Quit India Movement in 1942, during which he was arrested and kept under house arrest.

Even though India gained independence on August 15, 1947, the Constituent Assembly was formed shortly before that. in constitution making Bhimrao Ambedkar And Rajendra Prasad played the lead role. Dr. Prasad was elected the chairman of the Constitution Committee of India. By signing the constitution, Dr. Prasad gave recognition to it.
